Are you awake?

Have you ever wondered if you have been sleepwalking through your life? Sometimes I feel as if I have been. Why did it not occur to me to earlier in my life that I loved art? Early this morning I was surfing the Internet and I realized there are so many artist out there I love. Names I have never heard of , pieces I just want to absorb. I can't connect to my artistic child because she isn't here. I don't remember art.I don't remember wanting crayons. The only thing I remember about art class was this cute guy who sat beside me. The closest I ever got to loving art was wanting to be a makeup artist. I would spend all my money that I babysat for on makeup and pour over faces in magazines for tips. My sister remembers bringing friends home and she said I would rattle off a whole list of what they needed. I remember looking at faces and thinking how I could make them better. Makeup was my palette. Maybe that is why I want to draw and paint faces now. I want to share with you a few artists I discovered this morning .

First Kate Smith , I love , love her work . Something about her work speaks to me.

and Chris Reilly , I love the way he captures french women. You can see more of his work here , you may even discover a new favorite of your own.
I may have been asleep for most of my life but I am awake now. Don't forget to slow down and absorb the beauty around you ...

  1. i love this! I also wish I had been more artsy and crafty as a child. I wonder how it would have changed by now. But all we can do is go forward!

  2. Your honesty will open doors for you! I truly believe that is the biggest step into finding your unique creative voice. And makeup artistry is an amazingly creative outlet. The face can be a wonderful canvas. Keep it up girl! xoxo

  3. I always did a lot of crafts as a child, but never thought of myself as an artist. It's been a growing realization for me too. But I'm not one to live with regrets, so I prefer to think of it as our lives up to this point were preparing us for what we now see and want to create. :-)

  6. Darling Jackie, you have described most of us. We are all kind of asleep. I think we are all just kind of learning.

But beauty has always spoken to you and you always saw it.

I love the painters you have chosen and I cannot wait to see your work.

Just do it Jackie, don't wait okay. Just pick up some paint and brushes and go.

    Love Renee xoxoxo

  8. Hi Jackie, I just found your blog, and I love these artists that you put on your blog. And I completely agree with you about art--I was the same way. And I love the faces--I just signed up for Suzi Blu's Goddess and Poet class. I'm very attracted to her art, and I would love to be able to paint/draw like her. I'm glad that I found you--be looking forward to seeing your art.

  9. Hi Jackie
Thanks for stopping by today and yes, I'd love suggestions for where to buy my coffee now :)
I wish I had discovered a love of art years ago too. I remember LOVING a new colorbook and thought I was in heaven when a box of 64 crayons landed in my lap but that's about it. We didn't even have art class when I was in high school. How I wish they did!
I admire the artists you chose to share with us, very good work!!
    Happy New Year!
    Darla

  11. Thanks for sharing those awesome artists! And I do know what you mean about sleep walking through life. The older I get (I'm 46 now) the more I realize that I want to stay VERY awake! I'm just glad I finally realized it...it seems that a lot of people way older than me haven't figured it out yet!

Oh...I'm glad that you finally did find a niche in the art world! Better late than never! :)

  13. Jackie--You and I are kindred spirits. I was right there in high school checking out the cute guy and wondering why an orange toned blush made my eyes look more blue. And would the cute guy notice???? What, that I looked like a tropicana ad? I came to art later in life when I was not in a good place; I found art. Or it found me. Now I can't imagine my life without it. jane aka kreativekandy
